General Terms & Conditions

  • APPLICATION
The brass tiles can be used for any wall covering, both decorative and functional. They can also be used as horizontal tablet applications. Depending on the application used, the patina of the tiles will resonate with that use. This use may impact the patinas and discolouration of the tiles. If the user does not wish this, the uses are free to degrease the tiles and protect them afterwards with a neutral clear varnish. Atelier can not be held responsible for the way the tiles are installed and finished by the installing contractors

    CHARACTERISTICS
The tiles are cast manually in the workshop using an artisanal process. For this reason, we created a tile in which each tile creates an individual texture. The tiles have a relatively fixed size but a variable texture, which is precisely the strength of the product. The tile is a 100% pure natural product and consists of 100% pure brass. For this reason, this material is also subject to discolouration and wear depending on the load. We cannot be held liable or responsible for changes to the end result as it has no control over the conditions under which the tile is used.

    FINISHING AND DIMENSIONS
These tiles are available in unpatinated brass or patinated brass in Aged Bronze patina. Patination is a natural production process in which the material is coloured in the mass. The tiles are not given an opaque colour like a lacquer. Patination is applied manually at our workshop and undergoes an in-house developed control system to ensure the patinas are as even as possible. As a result, the tile may acquire an uneven colouring. Colour shades and variations are possible. When the tile is worn, the tile may re-patinise depending on use and the tile will naturally re-colour.

    Dimensions: +/- 100 x 100 x 3mm

    INSTALLATION
The tiles can be fixed with MS polymer that adheres to the surface of your project. The adhesive should provide a tensile strength of at least 260N/cm2 after 7 days drying time. They can be installed with or without joint filling. If joints are filled, we recommend using an expandable grout in a colour that matches the colour of the patina.

This grout can always be ordered from Atelier Tourain if required.

    MAINTENANCE
The tiles are coated with a light and natural oil that provides the tiles with basic water-repellent protection. These oils are food environment approved. After cleaning the tiles with water and a neutral soap, we recommend reapplying a fine layer of oil as provided. This can be applied very easily with a cotton cloth.

In principle, this is not a must if you wish to patina the tiles. Products and materials with higher acidity degrees or that remain on the tiles for a long time will cause marking after some time.

  • BRASS

Use only a soft cloth dampened with water or special neutral products suitable for use on painted and delicate surfaces. Do not use abrasive cloths, solvents, alcohol or aggressive detergents, which could irreparably damage the surface. Dry the surface well in case of contact with water. If the material is protected with our oils. These oils should be reapplied after each cleaning and are available for purchase.

Any differences between the finished product and supplied samples are not to be considered as defects, but as inherent characteristics deriving from the manual working process which may result in variations to the colour, finish and homogeneity of the final product. These variations cannot be considered defects and are not covered by this warranty. It should also be remembered that metal and brass can show colour variations from one batch to another. Atelier Tourain accepts no responsibility in the event of any differences, in particular for products purchased at different times.

  • With each delivery Atelier Tourain provides a natural and clear protection oil.
This oil can be used by the user to reapply after each cleaning of any brass surface.

The oil is safe for use in food environments.

    How to use?

    1. Gently clean the brass surface with a soft lint-free cloth. The cloth can be used slightly damp, with or without a neutral and very soft soap.

Keep in mind that local rubbing (with a cloth with or without soap) will cause friction on the surface and will cause the brass to intensely colour, very locally . For this reason, we recommend using wide and soft cleaning movements. Local intense patina spots are not stains but merely the brass showing a reaction due to ingress of other materials and will not disappear with cleaning. This will simply blend back into the general patina and colouring of the material over time.

Be patient and enjoy the natural power of brass!

    2. After cleaning, dry the surface with a clean and dry cloth

    3. After drying use a clean an soft cloth to apply the oil. Put the oil on the cloth and then rub the oil on the brass surface in a fine layer. Again, use wide and soft movements.

Thick layers of oil will not provide more protection but rather make the whole thing feel unpleasant and remain greasy. A fine and thin layer of oil will not be felt after drying.

    4. Let the oil dry to the air.

    5. Your brass surface is now protected again

Please note that under no circumstances can Fo Le Fer BV - Atelier Tourain be held accountable about how the brass is maintained or used. This is 100% the responsibility of the user

Fo Le Fer BV - Atelier Tourain's oil provides a basic water repellent effect but is no 100% sealed protection. It serves purely as basic protection against mild splashes of light products. Acids such as for example lemon, tomatoes, wine or harsh cleaning products, will break down the oil more quickly and thus cause patina marks on the material.

The customer is aware that Atelier Tourain delivers the brass as a natural product and accepts every aspect of its natural characteristics.
